First Aid Skills

Most of our fun moments were in either primary or secondary school. We indeed created memories! Speaking of creation, physical education, known as PHE, makes the memory more interesting. Of course, not having that class in most schools is not exciting for some students.

However, it doesn’t remove the fact that it was engaging. A lot of students learn how to jump, run, engage in some activities, and use First Aid as their mechanism for safety. Tell us: How is that not fun?

Well, there are a lot of activities we can discuss. However, we care about your safety! Let’s talk about first aid.

As stated earlier, we’ve had quite several experiences with first aid, either personal or not. But then, what is first aid?

First aid is the immediate help given to a person with a minor or serious injury to save their life. Now, you must know how important it is to possess at least a first-aid skill. Yes, every life counts!

However, a majority of us don’t even know how this first aid skill works. The first time we saw the CPR performed, it came as a surprise. The guy seemed to take advantage of the lady. We later found out that he was trying to save her.

Basic first aid techniques can save someone's or someone else's life. There are different life skills we have. They include CPR, splinting, stopping bleeding, sprains, stitches, treating burns.

We made an example earlier about the first time we experienced CPR, right? So, you won’t exaggerate like us. This is what it means and how it works. CPR is the most well-known and crucial first aid skill.

Not to worry, it takes just five minutes to learn it. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation preserves a person’s breathing, blood circulation, and brain function by providing artificial ventilation. Thus, it is an invaluable skill that we must learn.

Have you ever witnessed someone choking before? It’s terrifying! The Heimlich maneuver is used to free someone who is choking. This will save their lives or help them avoid brain damage.

Apart from choking, first aid skills include sprains, stitches, and treating burns. A fun fact about this is that they are all frequent injuries.

When a sprain happens, you must bandage and elevate the affected joint until a doctor can examine it. Failure to do so could harm the cartilage and tissue. Also, you might have to bandage a wound until emergency help arrives. Even if the injury is uncommon, knowing how to and stitch pays off.

To minimize pain, a splint is advisable. A first aid course will educate you on how to put a splint if someone close to you breaks a bone. The important part is that you must perform splint on an affected person before moving the wounded person. Now, you see how learning a first aid skill saves lives.

Some years ago, we had a patient that had a shock. As you know, shock can result from a lack of blood flow to the brain, as well as from an allergic reaction, an incident, a disease, or an infection. The man was looking pale and disoriented when he finally fainted.

However, we had to make sure he was warm, have him lie quietly with his feet raised, and refrain from giving him any liquid. That was how he was saved before we took him to the hospital.

Does first aid skills contribute to lifesaving? Of course, it does. However, is that all about the importance of possessing first aid skills?

Apart from its capability to save lives, it also makes patients feel more comfortable. Plus, when you maintain a certain level of composure, it gives the patient a level of emotional support.

Most importantly, giving first aid to an affected person provides the means to stop the problem from getting worse. Do what’s needed! Learn a first aid skill today.
